Earn Money Through Speakers Bureaus

Guess what?  Your marketing is worth nothing if you can’t get people into a room and listen to you speak.  Plus, at the very least the cost of marketing must be recouped by the income you earn actually giving the seminar.

However, speaking can have a high profit margin if you do it correctly.

One way to earn money is to work with a Speakers Bureau.  A Speaker Bureau acts as an agent for a speaker similar to an agent for an actor.  Speakers Bureaus are essentially meeting planners that set up engagements with corporate clients that you might not otherwise be able to contact.  The corporate clients will request keynote speakers.  They contact the Speakers Bureaus who then find a speaker to be the keynote speaker.

Tip:  There are different “markets” on the speaking circuit.  They are ranked.  For example, the Chicago and New York markets are ranked very high.

If you desire the assistance of a Speakers Bureau then you need to be ready and raring to go.  You need to contact Speakers Bureaus with a head shot, one sheet (who you are and what you speak about), and a promotional video.  They want people who are already trained and ready to work. They usually take a 20-25% cut of your earnings.

If you go through a Speakers Bureau then you are not giving your own seminar.  Instead, you are speaking about a predetermined topic for a company.  For example, you might talk about team building.  Even though you don’t sell your own product, you are still being paid.  The company pays you to speak to their employees.

If you have a great promotional package then you could become part of several different Speakers Bureaus.  Let them put in the time and legwork into finding places for you to speak.  They will earn back their time by taking a 20-25% cut of the fee you charge at the specific event.

Working with Speakers Bureaus can be a great way to break into the speaking circuit.  Plus, you can also make back end sales in addition to your speaker fees.  For example, let’s say you have a CD set on the topic of team building.  You can sell these CD’s to the same company that has requested you to speak on team building.  You can also sell these CD’s to the employees that you speak to during the meeting.

Tip:  If the company records your speech then you are entitled to extra money.  They can’t record you for free because you own the recording rights.

Tip:  Search different Speakers Bureaus on the Internet.  Check out the National Speakers Association.  You can find out a great deal about Speakers Bureaus by perusing the different Speakers Bureau websites.

Tip:  You can work with as many Speakers Bureaus as you want.
